In construction inspection work, take soil, subgrade and subbase compaction test, concrete test, inspects grading, surfacing and drainage structures for satisfactory work and adherence to plans and specifications, assists in establishing line and grade for this work, operates instruments, keeps notes and makes some computations.
In a survey party, assists in setting control points, assists in all linear, angular and vertical measuring operations; cuts brush; assists in repair and maintenance of equipment. Operates survey equipment.

- Five years of full-time employment in highway construction technician activities. Two years of which must have been at the level of responsibility equivalent to a Transportation Engineering Technician III.
- Applicants may substitute education N.I.C.E.T. Level 3 or higher certification or education in an engineering curriculum at an accredited junior college, college or university at the rate of thirty (30) semester credit hours for the one (1) year of required experience.
