WBCM provided civil engineering and survey services for site work associated with additions to the Calvert School Lower and Middle School. The two additions are located in different areas of the campus and were treated as separate projects for design, permitting, bidding, and construction purposes. WBCM’s services included design, permitting, bidding, and construction administration.
Site work for the Lower School included the relocation of an existing access road to accommodate the new building addition. The alignment of the new access road saw considerable elevation change from the public roadway to the service area, which provided a considerable design challenge. WBCM designed a retaining wall along the road to allow the road to remain at a lower elevation entering the site, which allowed the lower-level of the building addition to have more windows above-grade.
Site work for the Middle School included the relocation of a fire access road. The access road was redesigned as a pedestrian-friendly and aesthetically-pleasing paver plaza that still met emergency access requirements. WBCM also designed the relocation of water and sanitary sewer public utilities to accommodate the building addition.
WBCM designed several site elements for both additions, including roadways, sidewalks, and utilities (water, sanitary sewer, and storm drains). WBCM designed microbioretention facilities to fit into the existing campus and provide stormwater management.
