Synthetic Gypsum Rail Loading Facility

CertainTeed Gypsum Rail Loading Facility

WBCM provided the industrial engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, and construction services for a new synthetic gypsum rail loading facility at the Roxboro, NC, Progress Energy power plant.

The loading facility consists of a steel-plated apron-type loader that feeds a belt conveyor that discharges the raw material through a diverter chute into the rail cars. Rail cars are shuttled into position by a track mobile that is remotely-operated from an elevated control booth. The loading capacity of the system is approximately 500 tons/hour.

WBCM was also responsible for the on-site construction observation, safety enforcement, subcontractor management, payment application verification, shop drawing review, processing requests for information, and preparation of as-builts. WBCM Construction Services coordinated the foundation construction, apron feeder machinery installation, and the conveyor and control booth erection.
