Enoch Pratt Free Library, Reisterstown Branch Renovations
Baltimore, MD

Interior of the Reisterstown Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free LibraryWBCM provided design, bidding, and construction administration services for renovations to the Reisterstown Branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library. Renovations to the two-story, 14,400 square-foot building were undertaken as a result of exterior wall failure due to over 30 years of water infiltration from a failed wall and roof membrane that resulted in substantial damage to the prestressed concrete joists  and supporting steel beams and columns that were encased in concrete.

WBCM’s primary charge was to replace/restore the exterior walls and roof to match the original design while correcting the design flaws that led to structural failure of the exterior walls. The walls were carefully demolished and rebuilt with new steel beams in phases.

In addition to the emergency repairs, WBCM also provided complete interior design renovations of the 14,400 square foot library. Improvements included upgraded exterior ramp railing to meet ADA guidelines, upgraded interior stairs and railing to meet current building code requirements, a new ADA-compliant unisex toilet room, remediation of an existing raised floor area in the meeting hall projection room, renovation of cabinetry in the staff lounge, and ADA-compliant drinking fountains. Other systemic improvements included incorporation of a security system and revisions to the HVAC distribution system. WBCM selected all the millwork, finishes, lighting, signage, and furnishings provided in the final package.
