UAS Inspection for Saratoga Street Garage Condition Assessment
WBCM used UAS technology for a condition assessment of the University of Maryland Baltimore’s Saratoga Street Garage facility. A typical binocular inspection of the garage exterior was replaced by high-resolution photos captured by the unmanned aerial vehicle.
WBCM flew four missions, one per building side. Each flight traversed the nine-story garage sides in a columnar serpentine path, capturing twenty megapixel images every ten feet. In the office, the images were cataloged and adjusted to eliminate shadow areas. The resulting images provided the medium for the structural engineers’ condition assessment.
UAS minimized the time of inspection and was executed during early morning hours, which reduced impact/disturbance of building occupants and occupants of surrounding buildings.
