The project began as an 18,000 square-foot addition to the existing Rescue Squad building, but after considering the programmatic requirements, on-site conditions, and existing code deficiencies, the decision was made to replace the facility.

The new 22,000 square-foot building maintains the footprint of the previous building on three sides. WBCM produced renderings of the exterior and interior and provided material samples to explain the design intent. The building program includes ambulance bays, a watch room, a catering kitchen, offices, bunkrooms, storage, and other amenities for the volunteers.

WBCM completed the project as a task order under an on-call contract with Calvert County for Professional Design Services.
