Stuckeman Family Building, The Pennsylvania State University
WBCM provided structural engineering services for a four-story, 110,000-square-foot architecture classroom building adjacent to the Palmer Museum of Art. The Stuckeman Family Building was the first new building Penn State designed to meet the US Green Building Council’s criteria for certification as sustainable architecture. It was designed and constructed to pursue LEED Gold certification.
The structure consists of composite steel beam and columns with 94 percent recycled content and is supported on a mini-pile deep foundation system. The exterior is comprised of brick, recycled copper, and low-energy glass.

Campus Center, University of Maryland Baltimore
WBCM provided engineering services for the design and construction of the 113,665-square-foot, six-story Campus Center. Innovative structural design solutions accommodated large open areas without columns in a constrained site with dense existing underground utilities. The structure uses a concrete slab and a composite steel beam system supported by steel columns founded on a mixture of caissons and spread footings. WBCM also renovated the existing 30-year-old gym in the adjacent Pratt Street garage, resulting in a modern athletic center containing an elevated, roof-supported running track; basketball, volleyball and racquet ball courts; and administrative offices. The project was phased to accommodate the university’s schedule.
