Marine-Industrial Department Receives MdQI MDOT Maryland Quality Initiative (MdQI) Maryland Port Administration (MPA) Modal Award for Upgrades at the (Over $5 Million) Dundalk Marine Terminal Berth 11-12 Upgrades Dundalk, MD
On January 31, 2019, members of WBCM’s Marine-Industrial department accepted the 2018 MDOT MPA Modal Award (>$5 million) during the Maryland Quality Initiative (MdQI) awards banquet for work done on upgrades to Berth 11-12 at the Dundalk Marine Terminal. WBCM provided complete engineering services for the upgrade of approximately 36 bents of the 1970s wharf. Six -hundred feet of the existing slabs and deck beams were removed and new pre-stressed concrete piles, pile caps, and new decking were installed. The updated platform was designed to support a 1,500 PSF live load to accommodate roll-on/roll-off and container vessel loading and unloading operations. Phasing was coordinated with the MPA to minimize operational impacts on the active terminal during construction. Accepting the award on behalf of WBCM was Constantine Fotinos.
