We are pleased to announce that Mike Baker has assumed the role of President of WBCM Construction Services (WBCM CS) effective January 1, 2019. He succeeds Lyle Aaby, LEED AP BD+C, who will remain as a senior adviser to the firm.
Mr. Baker has 20 years of experience in the construction industry. He has overseen the completion of projects for many national and global corporations including Yara International, Lockheed Martin, Continental Building Products, McCormick, Unilever, Sun Products Corporation, Liberty Mutual, Diageo, and various government and military agencies. He also has extensive experience working with local entities such as Baltimore County, the Maryland Zoo, BGE, and the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab.
Mr. Baker graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2003 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structures. In 2019, he is expected to earn an MBA from the University of Baltimore. Mr. Baker joined WBCM CS in 2014 after 16 years with Whiting-Turner Contracting. Mr. Baker brings a unique perspective to WBCM CS having worked at all levels in the construction industry over the course of his career. Right out of high school, Mr. Baker began working as a union laborer, continuing to do so through the first few years of college. During college, Mr. Baker earned an opportunity to work for Whiting-Turner as part of their internship program. After graduating, Mr. Baker joined Whiting-Turner and worked his way up from Project Engineer to Project Manager before leaving Whiting-Turner to join WBCM CS as a Senior Project Manager.
While having worked from coast to coast, Mr. Baker was born and raised in Baltimore. Although he aims to grow WBCM CS’s national reputation, he is thankful for the opportunity to work on local projects that enhance the city he calls home.
